Registration

To work as an occupational therapist in Manitoba, or to use the title: Occupational Therapist, individuals must register with COTM. It is illegal to practise any type of occupational therapy before you are registered with COTM.

Registering with COTM demonstrates that this individual respects the public’s right to safe, competent and ethical care, and recognizes COTM’s role in supporting and monitoring practice.

All registered OTs must renew their registration on an annual basis and ensure that all of their information on the COTM Register is kept up to date.

Occupational therapists are only entitled to use the designation O.T. Reg. (MB) if their name is on the Register of Practising Members. Individuals who are provisionally registered use the designation COTM Provisional OT until they become fully registered.

Application for Registration

The application process is a multi-phase process involving both you and the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba (COTM). Through this process, COTM confirms that you meet the legal requirements and professional standards for registration. All information and documents you submit must be verified by authorized COTM staff.

You must be registered in a category that allows active practice as an occupational therapist before beginning any type of occupational therapy practice in Manitoba. Working or volunteering as an occupational therapist includes participating in orientation or training.
